We’re looking for experts in vocational and technical qualifications

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Vocational and technical qualifications

We're seeking external subject experts, to complement our expertise in assessment and regulation, who can help shape new qualifications by evaluating assessments and scrutinising qualifications.

Working as a subject expert

Ofqual experts are independent contractors who are paid for the time they spend working with Ofqual.

Before you can work as an expert, you need to apply and be accepted on to our list of approved experts. All the experts on our list have demonstrated detailed knowledge and experience of education and assessment, and they come from a variety of backgrounds, including:

  • experienced teachers, lecturers and other educators
  • senior examiners
  • academics
  • professionals from subject associations and communities
  • professionals working in assessment theory or practice

Being on Ofqual’s list of approved experts is not a guarantee of work but is an exciting opportunity to be involved with crucial pieces of work, such as research qualifications and assessment, and is an excellent opportunity for continuing professional development (CPD).

Are you an expert in one of these areas?

The application process is open all year round, but we sometimes focus on specific sectors where we need more expertise. Right now we are looking for experts in:

  • animal care
  • agriculture
  • administration
  • human resources
  • catering and hospitality
  • children's care
  • manufacturing
  • beauty therapy
  • health and safety
  • first aid
  • paediatric first aid
  • protective services
  • marketing
  • procurement
  • transport and logistics
  • environmental conservation
  • enterprise and finance
  • entrepreneurship
  • social policy

We're looking for experts who have proven and up-to-date expertise in the subject. Knowledge and experience of assessment theory and practice would also be beneficial, as this helps us to understand whether qualifications are assessing the right things at the right level. This work is vitally important to developing and maintaining qualification standards, and presents a great opportunity for individuals to make a real contribution to the future of qualifications.

Apply to become an expert

We would not be able to do the work that we do without the help, knowledge and experience of external subject experts.

If you have expertise in any of the subjects listed above, and if you would like to get involved, find out how to apply.

The deadline for applications in this campaign is 23:45 on Sunday 23 July. If you have any queries about the application process, please email experts@ofqual.gov.uk.
