Sir Ian took over the role of Chief Regulator in January 2024. Before that, he had served as Chair of the Board of Ofqual from January 2021 and had been a Board member from March 2018. Before becoming Chief Regulator, Sir Ian led a multi-academy trust.
Sir Ian is Chair of Oak National Academy, an arm’s length body of the DfE.
We have issued the first Chief Regulator's Rebuke – a new enforcement tool introduced last October as part of a significant update to Ofqual's Supporting Compliance and Taking Regulatory Action policy.
